CDA strives to embrace the principles of faith, working through love and service in the promotion of justice, equality and the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all. Our service is focused on spiritual growth for those providing a service, as well as the recipients. The ministry meets every second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm
Catholic Daughters of the America was brought to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne by Gloria Villanueva who worked for many months getting the paper work in order, consulting with state officer and Father Norm Ermis, and drumming up interest. Gloria was our very first Regent presiding over our first formation meeting and setting up all the events leading up to Court 2690 St Peter the Apostle’s Institution Mass.
Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St Peter the Apostle had it’s Institution Mass on March 21, 2015. We had 30 charter members attending. Immediately afterwards we held our first meeting as a new court and elected officers. Our Court has grown to over 100 members in just three years. Our first officers as a court were Regent-Heidi Abshire, Vice Regent-Gloria Villanueva, Recording Secretary – Marti De La Garza, Financial Secretary- Kathy Hannig, and Treasurer-Judy Gleason
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. The CDA motto is “Unity and Charity”. They donate to charities, administer scholarship programs and strive “to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness”.
The CDA was formed over 100 years ago in 1903 in Utica, NY and today’s numbers are 75,000 members in 1,250 courts in 45 states across the country, and in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guam and the Virgin Islands. Just recently, a new court was established in Kenya. Deeply spiritual, the Catholic Daughter women share faith, love of God and a distinctly feminine spirituality alluded to by Pope John Paul II when he spoke of the necessity of “feminine genius” in today’s world.
